چکیده

We present post-outburst observations of the mid-infrared spectrum and submillimeter continuum of the illuminating source of the newly-discovered McNeil’s Nebula in the L1630 region of Orion. The 12μm flux of this source has increased by a factor of ∼25 after the outburst, whereas the submillimeter continuum remains at its pre-outburst level. The bolometric luminosity has increased by at least an order of magnitude, to ∼34L⊙, and is likely less than 90L⊙. The mid-infrared spectrum exhibits a strong and red continuum with no emission or absorption features. The infrared slope of the spectral energy distribution characterizes the illuminating source as a flat-spectrum protostar, in both its active and quiescent states. New CO spectral line observations show no evidence for a molecular outflow. Subject headings: stars: formation — stars: pre-main sequence — stars: variables

IRAS 05436–0007 and the Emergence of McNeil’s Nebula

We present a study of McNeil’s Nebula, a newly appeared reflection nebula in the L1630 cloud, together with photometry and spectroscopy of its source. New IR photometry compared to earlier 2MASS data shows that the star has brightened by about 3 magnitudes in the near-infrared, changing its location in a J-H/H-K diagram precisely along a reddening vector. A Gemini NIRI K-band spectrum shows str...

ISO observations of the reflection nebula Ced 201 : evolution of carbonaceous dust ⋆

We present spectrophotometric imaging mid–IR observations of the reflection nebula Ced 201. Ced 201 is a part of a molecular cloud illuminated by a B9.5V star moving through it at more than 12 km s−1. The spectra of Ced 201 give evidence for transformation of very small carbonaceous grains into the carriers of the Aromatic Infrared Bands (AIBs), due to the radiation field of the illuminating st...

Interactions between a Bright YSO and the MSX Infrared-Dark Cloud G79.3+0.3: An Early Stage of Triggered Star Formation?

Millimeter and mid-infrared observations have been made of the dense clumps of dust and gas and of young stellar objects (YSOs) associated with the bright, compact submillimeter source G79.3+0.3 P1 in the relatively nearby MSX infrared-dark cloud G79.3+0.3. The Gemini mid-infrared observations reported here indicate the presence of three YSOs within the cloud. BIMA 3 mm continuum observations s...

Optical and near infrared observations of V 1647 Ori and McNeil ’ s Nebula in February – April 2004

We combine our V , R, I , J , H , K s photometric and near infrared spectroscopic observations of the outburst star V1647 Ori obtained in the period 12 February–24 April 2004 with published data in order to make inferences on the geometry of the object and the nature of the eruption. The main results are as follows: (1) Our photometric results do not indicate systematic fading of the star in th...

Pinpointing the Position of the Post-AGB Star at the Core of RAFGL 2688 using Polarimetric Imaging with NICMOS

We have used infrared polarimetric imaging with NICMOS to determine precisely the position of the star that illuminates (and presumably generated) the bipolar, pre-planetary reflection nebula RAFGL 2688 (the Egg Nebula). The polarimetric data pinpoint the illuminating star, which is not detected directly at wavelengths ≤ 2 μm, at a position well within the dark lane that bisects the nebula, 0. ...
